Android Device Manager now available, allows tracking lost Android devices

Google is now rolling out the Android Device Manager service, which lets you find and ring a lost/stolen device or erase it altogether. The service allows you to ring your smartphone at maximum volume until the power button is pressed silencing the device, locate your smartphone on Google Maps and erase the device.

We previously reported that this service was being rolled out to some Android users, and we shared a leaked APK of the service.

Android Device Manager is quite similar to Apple’s “Find my iPhone” service and Microsoft’s “Find a Lost Phone” for Windows Phones, which have been available on their respective platforms almost since launch.

All you have to do to get started is head over to the Android Device Manager web port and sign into your Google Account. All the devices linked to that account will appear allowing to to locate them on a map and wipe them if necessary.

Google is working on an Android app for Android Device Manager which should be available soon.
