Skype for Android has been updated to version 4.0 and brings a new user interface which is consistent with the Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 versions of the app, while it retains the feel of an Android app. Skype for Android has also passed 100 million installed today.

While you will see similarities between Skype for Windows and Skype for Android, the Android version still maintains a tabbed UI, instead of the overflowing Modern UI design. As soon as you install the update, you will get a quick demonstration on how you can navigate through the new interface. Skype claims that the app has been rebuilt to be easier to navigate and faster in all aspects.
Unfortunately the update is only available for phones and has not made its way to tablets. Skype says that the tablet version is "just around the corner" but doesn't give an exact date of when we can expect it.
