Nokia schedules press event on May 9, says its "time to shift gears"

Nokia has scheduled a press event for May 9th in New Delhi, India and has sent out an invitation which reads its "time to shift gears". The invitation does not indicate if Nokia plans to launch new products or technologies during the event, nor does it indicate whether the event will be centered around Lumia Windows Phones or Nokia's Asha Series.

Given the event is taking place in India, it is likely that it will be centered around Asha devices as the country is a known stronghold for the feature phone lineup.
Nokia is likely to have chosen a different location if they were planning to launch a new Lumia handset, but I am sure users in India won't mind their own exclusive Lumia device.

Another possibility is that Gears refers to Nokia's accessory division. So there is a chance we will see something in the form of new accessories for Asha or Lumia handsets.

We would also like to take an unlikely jab at the possibility of a Nokia Android device. We know this won't likely happen in the near future, but there are many Nokia fans who would like to see a Nokia Android smartphone enter the world in some form or the other. Microsoft's focus with Windows Phone has been slow, and Nokia is only currently held back by the lack of apps and the progress of the Windows Phone platform. Could Nokia be planning a shift in the Android form with the introduction of a new series aimed at developing countries?

In any case we just have a week to find out, so stay tuned for updates
