Samsung Galaxy Note II receives software update, includes new Bootloader and Exynos exploit fix

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-2The Samsung Galaxy Note II for Verizon is receiving an unannounced 7.8MB software update today which brings baseband version I605VRALL4  and build number JRO03C.I605VRALL4 for your device. The change-log indicates that the update is a security fix, and it could be assumed that it is aimed at fixing the Exynos  exploit which has been plaguing certain Samsung Galaxy devices. That means that the Exynos Abuse app will no longer work once you have installed the update.

While the device will remain on Android 4.1.1, you will also get new bootloaders after installing this update. While Samsung or Verizon have not revealed the reason behind the new bootloaders, they could patch the exploit which was previously used to unlock bootloaders on the older software.

This means that users who rely on custom ROMs may have to wait before installing this update as you may get locked out of doing so following this update.

However if you haven't rooted your device, you can head over to Settings and check if the update is available for your Galaxy Note II. You can also manually check for the update by heading over to Settings on your device.
