Samsung announces Exynos 5 Octa mobile processor with eight cores

If you think mobile processors will stop with quad-cores, you will be happy to know that limit has been surpassed. Samsung has announced their Exynos 5 Octa mobile processor with features eight full processor cores. The Exynos 5 Octa belongs to the 5 series and has been built using the 28nm process and Samsung has done a lot of work to improve performance while decreasing power consumption.

The results look promising as the processor is capable of searching for restaurants and watching HD movies at the same time while enjoying 3D games like Need for Speed: Most Wanted. “Level of pure processing power, never seen before in mobile devices” and “more detailed damage to cards, then ever before” were just a few of the superlatives thrown at Exynos 5 Octa during gaming.

The Exynos 5 Octa has features twice the graphics performance of any device currently in the market and somehow manages to offer 70% power savings in the process. Samsung has used ARM’s big.LITTLE concept, which combines a mix of Cortex-A7 cores for the smaller tasks while the Cortex-A15 cores for the heavier processors.

Samsung even set their new processor up against the NVidia Tegra 4 and the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Series and managed to come out on top. Samsung also stated that they were planning to bring 20nm, 14nm and even 10nm mobile chipsets in future, which means we have some exciting things in store for us in future.
