Nokia demonstrated the capabilities of the camera phone when the unveiled the Nokia 808 PureView with PureView Phase 1, which used pixel oversampling to achieve amazing photos. When the Nokia Lumia 920 was released with PureView Phase 2, Nokia introduced us to their new floating lens technology which achieved optical image stabilization (OIS) and amazing low light photos.
Many enthusiasts hoped that the next logical step would be to combine Phase 1 and Phase 2 into the succeeding flagship, but it looks like Nokia may keep them separate for some time, at least for this coming year.
Nokia is reported to be working on a new device codenamed the Nokia EOS, which will use a big sensor similar to the 808 PureView with pixel oversampling on Windows Phone. This device is expected to feature an aluminium design with square edges instead of the polycarbonate devices which the company has been recently releasing. The EOS is expected to arrive on AT&T later this year.
The Lumia 920 will also be succeeded by a device codenamed the Nokia Catwalk, which will feature the OIS technology of PureView Phase 2. Catwalk like its name suggests aims to do away with the size and heft of the Lumia 920 and will come in an aluminium frame, with its debut planned for summer according to sources.
Are you excited about the new Lumias? We think Nokia should wait a little longer before they announce a successor for the Lumia 920. Agree?
