Sony has released a new flash tool to make it easier to restore official ROMs to Xperia devices with unlocked bootloaders. The company even has a dedicated page with instructions on easily unlocking your bootloader and has continued to show its support to the custom ROM community.Additionally developers will even be able to select a different version of the Android software which your device supports. This means you can quickly load Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich to test your app.
Currently the tool only works with the Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia Arc and the Sony Xperia Arc S. But Sony has plans to expand this catalogue in future. The flash tool is currently supported in several regions with a few exceptions including China, North Korea, Iran, Burma, Cuba, Sudan and Syria, which Sony says is due to distribution issues.
