Sony has just created a list revealing which of their devices will be receiving the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software update. The update is expected to be released sometime early next year and will include some Sony exclusive features and functions which the company said they were excited about and would reveal more about in 2013.
As you may expect, the high end devices like the Sony Xperia T, Sony Xperia TX and the Sony Xperia V will be updated as early as February or March. Once these updates are completed the Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia SL, Sony Xperia ion and Sony Xperia acro S will receive the Android 4.1 update in the following weeks.
Unfortunately it looks like some devices will not be receiving the update even through they are no more than 9 months old. These devices are the Sony Xperia U, Sony Xperia miro, Sony Xperia tipo and the Sony Xperia sola. These devices will have the unfortunate privilege of remaining on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Sony hasn't revealed their update plans for the Sony Xperia ion and the Sony Xperia TL which are available in the U.S. through AT&T.
Its disappointing when devices don’t receive software updates for even a year. It looks like users will have to be willing to spend on premium devices if they want long term software updates for their smartphones and tablets.
