Motorola discontinues Lapdock and Webtop

It wasn’t too long ago when Motorola first introduced the Motorola Atrix 4G.  The device featured a dual-core processor which Motorola felt was powerful enough to run a desktop environment. To achieve this Motorola introduced the Webtop software with Mozilla’s Firefox browser which allowed the device to be docked with the Lapdock accessory and used to power the 11.6 inch netbook.

Now it seems like Motorola is planning to discontinue the Lapdock.

The Lapdock was aimed at corporate users, giving them the option option of a large display with a physical keyboard. While the idea has been presented in different ways with devices like the Asus PadFone, it has still not been extremely successful.

Motorola initially expected to include the Webtop application on every high end Motorola devices, but have chosen to abandon this as Android continues to evolve to offer more desktop like features.
"Motorola's Webtop app helps users extend their smartphone experience to larger screens. While consumers around the world have adopted Webtop and the concept spurred a lot of innovation in the industry, the adoption has not been strong enough to justify continued resources being allocated to developing Webtop on future devices. We have also seen development of the Android operating system focus on the inclusion of more desktoplike features. Beginning with Photon Q and Droid Razr M/Droid Razr HD/Droid Razr Maxx HD, we will no longer be including Webtop on our products moving forward."-Motorola
As a result Motorola will stop offering the Webtop software starting with the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE. That would include the Motorola Droid RAZR M, Motorola DROID RAZR HD and the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD.

We also cant help wonder if Google eventually plans to offer Chrome OS as a bootable option in future versions of Android.
