Microsoft planning to replace points system in Windows 8 with cash option

As the launch of Windows 8 continues to draw closer, Microsoft is making changes to the way digital media is purchased on their new operating system. Previously customers are required to purchase Microsoft points in order to make purchases from various Microsoft stores.

This point system has often faced controversy for being confusing and it seams like Microsoft is planning to do away with it in the final version of  Windows 8

This seams a little strange since the beta versions of Windows 8 continued to use the same system for purchasing content, especially since users may be getting used the the system by now. However it is important to understand that Windows 8 will hope to reach out to a wider audience than ever before and in the process introduce those users to the entire Windows ecosystem including the Xbox and Windows Phones.

Previously users would require to purchase points at $1 for every 80 points. In the final version of Windows 8 users will be able to pay for content using their credit or debit cards instead of having to exchange it for points. While Microsoft may be the Points system for awhile, it is very likely that it will be done away in future.

The Xbox which is probably where the points are used the most, would likely be the last to see the change.
