Impressive AT&T fourth quarter results

AT&T maybe disappointed that their merger with T-Mobile didn't fall through, but their Q4 results don't seem to show any strain. The carrier added 2.5 million subscribers, making a 103.2 million total. With an ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) of $63.77 monthly the company managed to rake in $4.4 billion.

The company has had an impressive quarter of smartphone sales totalling 9.4 million, a figure which is double the Q3 number. AT&T has refers to this quarter as their best ever in regard to the total number of iPhone and Android handsets sold.

The iPhone leads in the sales numbers of 7.6 million with the Apple iPhone 4S dominating these numbers. With Apple reported to have sold 37 million handsets in the fourth quarter, AT&T solely represents 20% of those sales.

Android sales have also been impressive with the number of handsets sold doubled since last year.

As you can imagine all these smartphones contribute to heavy data consumption, which is reported to have grown significantly since last year and contributed to nearly $1 billion in revenue.
