[Guide] How to root your BlackBerry PlayBook


Rooting / Jailbreaking your BlackBerry PlayBook using DingleBerry has  not an easy task. But the developers behind the root have been improving their software and you can use our guide to root your PlayBook easily
Rooting your tablet will allow you to install and run the Android Market on your device, so the risk may be worth the reward.

NOTE - It is important to understand that rooting your device can be risky and result in you loosing your data or causing your device to malfunction. Please proceed at your own risk.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Download and install BlackBerry Desktop Software for Windows.
  • Download the latest version of DingleBerry and Extract to a location of your choice
  • Ensure you have your USB cable to connect your PlayBook to your computer.
PROCEDURE
  1.  Make a backup of your BlackBerry PlayBook using the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
  • Go to Storage & Sharing under Settings on your PlayBook and; 
  • Turn on File Sharing
  • Turn on Wi-Fi Sharing
  • Turn off Password Protect
  • Go to Security under Settings on your PlayBook and; 
  • Turn on Use Development Mode
  • Enter a password when prompted, note it as you will need it later.
  • Go to About under Settings on your PlayBook and;
  • Select Network from the dropdown box
  • Note down your device IP address
  • Open the DingleBerry folder you previously extracted and run dingleberry.exe
  • Select Continue
  • Enter the PlayBook's IP Address and Password
  • Select the Jailbreak button and Select Continue when prompted.
  • Select Choose and browse and select your backup file which you made in step 1
  • DingleBerry will create a modfied backup file in the same location
  • Use the BlackBerry Desktop software to restore the modified backup file on your PlayBook
  • Choose Custom and make sure only settings is checked.
Thats it. Your PlayBook is now rooted. You can verify if your device has been rooted by;
  • Open DingleBerry and select Dingle SSH
  • If you see 'Running SSH on PlayBook' and a Command Prompt opens you are done.
