Samsung Epic 4G receives Android 2.3 Gingerbread software update

The Samsung Epic 4G is a variant of the Samsung Galaxy S with a QWERTY keyboard aimed at business users. It features a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 5MP camera and is powered by a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM.

Samsung has announced that they will be offering the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the device.

The device has been available since August last year and it is good to see Samsung has not forgotten a device which is getting quite outdated. Gingerbread should breath some life into this device and keep it relevant for a little longer.

The following new features are available with the update.
  • Upgrade of the Google OS from Froyo to Gingerbread (Android 2.3)
  • Audible Sprint AIRAVE™ notifications when answering call
  • SMS messages sent without area code
  • PRL and Profile update
  • EAS (Exchange Activesync) email displaying HTML
  • Bluetooth headset sound improvements
  • Fully visible date on device lock screen
If you own a Samsung Epic 4G and have received the update, please share your experiences in the comments section which follows.
