Nokia continues it's commitment to the Symbian platform with the release of Symbian Belle, which follows the release of
Symbian Anna which started rolling out to devices last week.
Belle (which means beautiful in French) improves on Symbian Anna and offers new features like new home-screens, widgets, improved customization and built in support for NFC.
Symbian^3 devices came with three panes which itself was an improvement over the single pane on older Symbian smartphones. While Anna didn't introduce new panes, Symbian Belle now features six panes, allowing users to have much more content on their
homescreens. Widgets now come in five sizes and you can resize the widgets to your preferred size.
Symbian Belle also features a
pull down status bar, similar to the one which can be found on Android devices.
Notifications are now available on the lock-screen to show missed calls and messages.
Multi-tasking has also been improved in the update, allowing you to view live images of the open apps. Belle introduces close
integration with Microsoft products by introducing
Lync, Sharepoint, OneNote, Exchange ActiveSync and
PowerPoint Broadcaster.
NFC has also been deeply integrated with Belle allowing one tap pairing with compatible accessories
The Symbian Belle update was released alongside three brand new devices from Nokia - The
Nokia 600,
Nokia 700 and
Nokia 701 and will be made available to the older Symbian^3 devices like the
Nokia C6-01,
Nokia C7,
Nokia E6,
Nokia E7,
Nokia X7,
Nokia 500 and the
Nokia N8.
Check out the Symbian Belle video demonstration which follows and see the experience for yourself.
