Samsung Gear S now available in the US

Samsung Gear S

The Samsung Gear S was announced a few months ago as the first smartwatch capable of making calls by itself, thanks to its SIM card slot and 3G connectivity. Starting today you will be able to purchase the smartwatch in the US.

The Gear S is expected to be sold through all four major US carriers, but only AT&T and Sprint are offering it at this time. Verizon and T-Mobile will be offering the smart wearable at a later time.

If your purchase the Gear S on AT&T, in Black or White and it will cost you $199.99 with a two-year contract, or $299 without a commitment. Meanwhile Sprint will offer the device only in black for $0 down plus 24 monthly payments of $16 or for $384 contract free.

[UPDATE] Verizon has also listed the Gear S in black and in white, and will charge $350 with a 2 year contract or $399.99 contract free. Meanwhile T-Mobile still has the device listed as coming soon, but allows you to sign up for updates.

The Gear S runs Samsung's own Tizen platform, which means it can only be used with select Samsung Galaxy devices. You can still use the Gear S without a SIM card, by connecting it to your Galaxy smartphone via Bluetooth.

The Gear S features a 2 inch Super AMOLED display with a  360 x 480 pixel resolution, 4GB of internal storage, a 300 mAh battery, Wi-Fi, heart rate sensor, barometer, UV light sensor, compass, and a 1GHz dual-core Exynos processor with 512MB of RAM.
