Google is now rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to all major Nexus devices

Google Nexus

Google announced on Wednesday that it has started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop software update as an over-the-air (OTA) update to "most Nexus devices". The devices set to receive Lollipop include the Google Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (2012), Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 10. The Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 come with Android 5.0 preinstalled out of the box, but are also receiving an OTA update with bug fixes.

This news comes following Motorola's announcement, that they have started rolling out Lollipop for the Moto X (2014) Pure Edition and the Moto G. Other manufacturers are also hard at work optimizing the update for their devices, and you can check which devices will be updated to Lollipop.

The update will be pushed out to the Nexus lineup OTA, and you will receive a notification when the update is ready to download and install. You can manually check for the update's availability by heading to Settings > About Phone (Tablet) > System Updates.

Lollipop is the latest version of Android, previously codenamed by Google as the L Release. The update brings a brand new design to the platform, called Material Design,, which offers flatter icons and physics-based animations which gives both Android apps and the platform itself a smoother and more consistent user experience. Google has also added a new lock screen for Lollipop that comes with notifications that won’t force you to open up an app to take action on them, as well as support for 64-bit hardware and battery-saving features that stem from the company’s work in Project Volta.
