Sony has made a recent habit of releasing a flagship smartphone every six months, in the aims of bringing the latest technology to their consumers. Now hot on the tracks of the Sony Xperia Z2 the company has announced their newest flagship at its IFA 2014 event - the Sony Xperia Z3.
The Sony Xperia Z3 comes with a new design, which the company refers to as its OmniBalance design philosophy. The new flagship comes with a rounded frame, reduced thickness (7.3 mm from 8.2 mm), and lighter weight (152 g from 162 g). The device is IP68-certified for its dust and water resistance, though Sony is adding an IP65 spec to the sheet, as well, to signify that the phone is also resistant from water shot directly at the phone. The Xperia Z3 also retains it's premium body, with a frame made out of aluminum and tempered glass used for the front and back panels.
The handset even retains its S-Force front facing stereo speakers, so you should continue to have a decent audio quality when playing your favorite tunes.

Display
Sony made it clear that they would not be jumping onto the Quad HD band wagon just yet, which means the 5.2 inch IPS display on their new flagship comes with the standard 1080 by 1920 pixel resolution. Sony claims that they have used their brightest TRILUMINOS display for mobile with the standard Live Colour and X-Reality engines for a better image. According to the company, this is the "world's brightest display of leading premium smartphones".
Camera
The Sony Xperia Z1 was introduced with a 20.7 megapixel rear camera, and the company has improved its camera through every generation. The module on the Xperia Z3 promises to offer several improvements for even better photos.
The large 1/2.3" Exmor RS sensor, now has a new 25mm wide-angled G Lens, which should give your camera a wider field of view. Sony is also adding new features to the camera software, including Face in (shoots two videos), AR fun (scribble over images), Sound Photo, and more, and, perhaps most importantly, the company has also improved its SteadyShot digital image stabilization tech, which should now be better at compensating for hand movements during video capture.
Processor
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor is supposed to introduce several new features to smartphone cameras, among which Chroma Flash (shoot two snaps in darkness, one with flash and one without, and combines them for a more natural-looking images), Action Shot and OptiZoom (tap on an object to keep it focused as it moves; tap on object and the camera will automatically zoom into it even if keeps on moving).
Unfortunately Xperia Z3 owners won't be getting any of these features, as the new flagship comes with the same Snapdragon 801 processor found on its predecessor with the same 3GB of RAM. Still Sony has used a higher clock speed and the Snapdragon 801 should be more than capable of handling anything the user throws its way. Those who were waiting for the Snapdragon 805 which the Galaxy Note 4 offers may have to wait for the next Xperia flagship to arrive.
In terms of storage, you get a 16GB and a 32GB version, both having the option to expand storage through microSD. The battery on the Xperia Z3 has been slightly reduced to 3100mAh from 3200mAh on the Xperia Z2 to make up for the reduced thickness.

The Sony Xperia Z3 will be available in Black, White, Copper and Silver Green, but the company failed to reveal the exact release date or pricing. However based on the available information we can expect the new flagship to arrive in the autumn of 2014 and cost €649,00 or £549 in Europe without a contract, similar to its predecessor.
