Fifteen reasons to upgrade to the Apple iPhone 6 Plus

Apple released two new iPhones this year, and while the Apple iPhone 6 would be considered as the perfect size for a smartphone, there are many out there who will have their eyes firmly set on the larger Apple iPhone 6 Plus. So in case you are on the fence, here are fifteen reasons you should upgrade to the iPhone 6 Plus.

1. The largest display on an iPhone to date

The iPhone 6 Plus has the largest display on an iPhone to date. At 5.5 inches it has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and 401 ppi pixel density. This easily dwarfs the iPhone 5s and even makes the new iPhone 6 look small. What's impressive is that Apple has made the iPhone 6 Plus extremely thin at 7.1mm. In fact it is even thinner than last year's iPhone 5s. Unfortunately the larger display size has resulted in a very tall device, especially since a significant amount of space has been reserved for the Touch ID sensor below the display.

2. up to 128GB of storage

For the first time Apple has announced a 128GB storage option for their iPhones. Obviously the new storage option comes at a cost, resulting in an unheard of $499 on-contract price or a whopping $950 off contract. Obviously this amount of storage is not for everyone, but those who have been craving for extra storage for their apps, movies and games won't be disappointed.

3. Longest battery life on an iPhone to date

The iPhone 6 Plus has a huge high-res 1080p display, and a fast A8 chipset. Due to the 20nm production method for the A8, and the new, more efficient chip packaging, the allegedly 2915 mAh juicer can last more than anything that Apple has mustered so far.


4. Landscape mode, Zoom View and one-handed mode

The larger screen has obviously limited the one thing the iPhone was well known for, its single handed use. Apple has added a few features to iOS 8 that take advantage of the larger display without causing any compromise for the user.

The landscape mode allows the user to use the iPhone 6 Plus in landscape mode, even on the homescreen. This is something large screen Android users have been enjoying for quite some time now and will be very useful on the larger iPhone

The One-Hand mode is meant for large screen displays and has been available on competitors large screen devices for quite some time now... With the iPhone 6 Plus, users will be able to shrink the UI for single handed use by tapping the homescreen button.

The zoomed view is yet another enhancement on your iPhone, which allows the user to swap between a Standware view, which allows you to see more of your apps or a zoomed view, which shows your content even bigger.

5. Apple A8 chip is the fastest on an iPhone to date

By using a new 20nm processor architecture, Apple has ensured that their A8 processor on the iPhone 6 Plus is not only faster, but also capable of managing tasks in a more energy efficient way... Because of this, their new iPhones perform better, but have even longer battery lives than their competitors.

6. NFC

The benefits of the Near Field Communication (NFC) are numerous, and we have seen Android and Windows Phone users take advantage of this technology for years now. Apple is finally onboard with the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, and use NFC technology for Apple Pay. Apple Pay combines seamlessly integrated hardware, software, and services, so you can combine the new NFC chip with the Touch ID security, and the Passbook cards and coupons, so that you can pay in Panera Bread, Whole Foods, in a Uber car, and a whole lot of other places.

7. VoLTE support

The iPhone 6 Plus now supports Voice over LTE. It’s wide-band audio for voice that sounds crisp and clear. VoLTE for iPhone 6 is supported by some of the world’s top carriers, but is still not widely-adopted everywhere.

8. Faster LTE and multiband support

The iPhone 6 Plus can reach 150 Mbps speeds - if your carrier supports those, of course. It also supports more LTE bands than any handset, for better compatibility with any 4G-enabled carrier worldwide.


9. Faster Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi calling

The iPhone 6 Plus can download on 1 Gbps Wi-Fi/ac networks, as long as your ISP and router can supply those. Wi-Fi calling is a new feature for making high-quality calls when cell conditions are poor. T-Mobile recently announced that they will be one of the first carriers in the US to offer Wi-Fi calling on the iPhone 6 as part of their Un-carrier 7.0 initiative.

Apple may have kept the camera size at 8MP from the iPhone 5s, but they have greatly improved on both the camera module, and the software accompanying it, introducing a new sensor, and more manual controls.

The new iSight camera sensor and image processor let you shoot 1080p HD video at 60fps, capture more dramatic slo-mo video at 240fps, and for the first time, create time-lapse videos. Continuous autofocus provides constant focus as you capture your footage.

13. Focus Pixels

The camera has a brand new feature Focus Pixels, which helps lock focus and take a picture even faster than before. Focus Pixels is a feature available on DSLRs, and the pixels in question determine focus direction, as well as how far to move the lens. With Focus Pixels, continuous autofocus changes are automatic and almost undetectable.

14. Camera with Optical Image Stabilization

Need we introduce optical image stabilisation? Here is a sample taken with the 6 Plus that is not blurred, despite the low-light environment. This tricky tech puts the whole camera module on suspension, so it compensates for motion blur and shaky hands a few hundred times per second. Apple is in the OIS team now, and we can't wait to put its stabilisation tech to the test against, say, the Note 4.

15. Improved FaceTime camera

Apple has also paid special attention to the front (selfie) camera on the iPhone 6 Plus - the FaceTime HD camera has an all-new sensor and larger ƒ/2.2 aperture that lets in over 80% more light. 

The iPhone 6 has improved face detection for selfies and group selfies. There is also a burst selfie mode - the iPhone 6 Plus can take up to 10 photos per second. Then you select the very best one. The camera also uses the new sensor to automatically take a single HDR photo when the moment is perfect.
