Nokia Lumia 1520 vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - Video Comparison

If you are in the market for a new phablet, the Nokia Lumia 1520 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 are two great choices. In terms of hardware, they are evenly matched with powerful quad-core processors and RAM managing their respective platforms. The software experience will definitely be the major deciding factor for the end user.

Android has been around for some time and has had the opportunity to mature into a very comprehensive mobile platform. With the Note 3, Samsung has optimized the platform for note taking and multi-tasking, making their phablet one of the best devices for productivity.

With the Lumia 1520, Nokia and Microsoft have maximized the use of the live tiles by adding a new column for even more visible information. In our opinion the Live tiles make of for the lack of notifications, allowing users to quickly scroll through what is important and access what is needed. Nokia's phablet lacks a stylus, but makes up for it with an amazing 20MP PureView camera. The large sensor is only second to Nokia's own Lumia 1020, and offers amazing photos, complemented by a collection of apps and camera filters from Nokia. The Lumia 1520 also comes with its own HERE Navigation Suite with turn by turn navigation and offline maps.

We think Nokia should have used their Lumia 1520 to introduce users to new productivity apps and services instead of entering the camera territory which is already dominated by the Lumia 1020. Nokia has proven that they can build amazing apps for their cameras and navigation, and the Lumia 1520 feels a little less utilized as a phablet without stylus centric apps.

Nokia Lumia 1520 - Specs
The Nokia Lumia 1520 specifications include a 6 inch 1080p full HD display, up to 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 20 megapixel PureView camera with Carl Zeiss optics capable of 1080p video capture, and a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - Specs
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 specifications include a 5.7 inch touch display, up to 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded through microSD, a 13 MP camera capable of 2160p HD video capture, a 2 MP camera for video calls, a stylus for input and be powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 / Octa-core Exynos with 3GB of RAM.

However we prefer the build of the Lumia 1520 over the Note 3 and the overall Windows Phone experience despite its shortcomings in certain aspects. Nokia's choice to price the Lumia 1520 at just $100 on contract, compared to the $300 on contract pricing of the Note 3, makes us sway even more toward Nokia's offering.
