Samsung Galaxy S II - New Android 4.0 ICS ROM with improved battery life surfaces


A new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S II has leaked bringing improved battery life to Samsung's flagship device.

The Galaxy S II which succeeds the original Samsung Galaxy S has premium features which include 16GB of internal memory, an 8MP camera capable of 1080p HD video and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor.

The update which is dated January 29 and marked I9100XXLPB compared to the official ICS build (I9100XXLP6)has relatively the same performance aside for the battery improvements. The update is reported to be stable for daily use.

NOTE - We do not recommend installing beta or pre release builds of any operating system or software without understanding the risks. 

NOTE - This guide is only applicable to the International rooted version of the Samsung Galaxy S II. It is not recommended that you attempt this on the U.S. variants of the Galaxy S II including the Epic Touch 4G.
  1. Download ODIN 1.83
  2. Download and extract Android 4.0.3 ICS [build I9100XXLPB]
  3. Ensure you have backed up your data from the Galaxy S II
  4. Shut down any open instances of Samsung KIES
  5. Open ODIN
  6. Switch off your Galaxy S II
  7. Press Volume Up + Home + Power buttons to enter Recovery Mode.
  8. Connect your device to your computer and wait for ODIN to detect it.
  9. From ODIN 
    • Select PDA and then select  I9100_CODE_I9100XXLPB_CL99600_REV02_user_low_ship.tar
    • Select CSC and select GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXXLP5_RST.tar
    • Select MODEM and select MODEM_I9100XXLPB_REV_02_CL1101286.tar
    • Click START for ODIN to begin the flashing process.
  10. Wait for the process to complete and your device to reboot.
You should now have this pre-release build of Android ICS 4.0.3 on your Samsung Galaxy S II. Check out some screenshots from the new build below (click to enhance)
