Microsoft Surface Pro 2 - Video Review

The Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is a powerful tablet which leaves most of its competitors in the dust. This comes as a result of its powerful 4th generation Core i5 processor under its hood. While some may argue that the Windows 8 platform is not mature enough to compete in the tablet market, we feel tablets like the Surface Pro will achieve the purpose they were mainly built for - productivity.

In terms of Software, the Surface Pro 2 runs Windows 8.1, the latest version of Microsoft's platform, which has evolved to meet the demands of fans and critics. While some may argue that the platform still takes a backseat to Android and the iPad in terms of app volume, we see the lineup on Windows 8 continue to grow.

Pricing unfortunately remains the biggest obstacle of the Surface Pro's popularity. Even though the Surface Pro 2 offers the power of an UltraBook, its still a tablet at heart and people tend to compare it to devices like the Apple iPad or the Google Nexus 10, instead of the MacBook Air.

However at $900 for the 64GB version of the Surface Pro 2, is still a pricey investment, more so when you tack on another $130 for the Touch Cover 2. So essentially, you’ll need to fork over $1,030 to snag yourself a hybrid device. Considering that ultrabooks deliver more versatility with their already included keyboards, additional ports, and larger (touch) screens, its hard to settle on the Surface as a replacement. Keep in mind though that the original Surface Pro has now been discounted to $699, making it much more alluring.

Still if you want the best of both worlds, which consists of the tablet form factor with an actual laptop/desktop OS, this is undoubtedly the thing for you. Best of all, as a daily PC driver, the Surface Pro 2 is compact enough to travel around with.
