HP is working on a smartphone, confirms CEO Meg Whitman

HP seams adamant to get in on the smartphone business. In a recent interview with a business news outlet HP CEO Meg Whitman confirmed that the company "Ultimately has to offer a smartphone", and that they were "working on it". She also stated they wanted to do the task right rather than faster.

Now the question is, which platform will they build their smartphone on ?

HP recently open-sourced webOS after discontinuing their tablet and phone efforts on that platform. It seams unlikely they will choose the same direction. The company has also built close ties with Microsoft but they didn't seam interested in Microsoft's ARM offerings when they selected to stick with Windows 8 instead of Windows RT.  Will their view on Windows Phone 8 be any different?

And what about Google? Could HP be building and Android devices? Is there place for another Android manufacturer in an already saturated market.
