Nokia Lumia 625 gets double-tap to wake with Lumia Black update

The Nokia Lumia 625 budget friendly phone with a big screen. Its always great getting a budget friendly Windows Phone, unfortunately this may result in you missing out on some features that are exclusive to other devices. One such feature is 'double-tap to wake' which wasn't previously available for the Lumia 625, but has now been enabled with the Lumia Black update.

Nokia has begun pushing out the Lumia Black firmware for the Lumia 625, which also includes Microsoft’s Update 3 to the Windows Phone 8 operating system. One new feature for Lumia 625 owners is the very ‘double tap to wake’ feature that was previously missing.

Double tap to wake’ enables the display to remain active, even when in standby. Users can then literally double tap the phone and the display will turn on. It’s useful for when wanting to check for messages or glance the Start screen one handed, as users can bypass the physical power button. Of course using this feature will consume a minimal amount of battery life, as nothing is free in life.

Unfortunately, the Glance screen feature (clock and notifications when the display is off) which requireds the device to have 1GB of RAM or higher, did not make it over to the Lumia 625.
