Apple iPhone 5 for Verizon is unlocked to use on GSM networks

The Apple iPhone 5 was officially launched today, but the unlocked version is not expected to be released for at least a few more weeks. However it seams that there’s an easy way to get an unlocked iPhone 5 from Verizon. A few users have been able to confirm that the iPhone 5 on Verizon is unlocked and usable on GSM networks.

The iPhone 5 features a 4-inch Retina touch display, up to 64GB of internal storage, 4G LTE connectivity, an updated 8 megapixel camera which is capable of 1080p video capture, a secondary 720p camera for Facetime video calls and is powered by an Apple A6 processor. The unlocked version can be used on any GSM in the United States or around the world.

This means that if you buy the iPhone 5 from Verizon at its full retail price, you will be able to pop in a nano-SIM from the carrier of your choice. The 16GB model will cost you $649, the 32GB costs $749 while the 64GB model will cost $849.

Keep in mind that the LTE network will only work on Verizon’s band and you wont get the 4G speeds on AT&T. It should work well on T-Mobile’s 3G network as long as the carrier has enabled the 1900 MHz spectrum in your area.

We are unable to verify if this is only the care on Verizon’s iPhone 5 or if it will be the same for the others. We will update you as soon as we know more.
