
Microsoft is continuing to evolve to offer a more uniform experience across all their devices and services. Most recently the company has rebranding its Lync unified communication products as "Skype for Business."






Microsoft Office 365 Personal is now available at Microsoft Store. A subscription to Microsoft Office 365 Personal costs you $6.99 a month for which you will get access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive cloud storage, and Skype PC-to-phone world calling for 1 PC or Mac, plus 1 iPad or Windows tablet.
Microsoft has released a major update for Office Online (available on office.com). Along with the update, Microsoft has also released their web based Office apps on the Chrome Web Store. You can now add Word Online, PowerPoint Online, and OneNote Online to your Chrome App launcher.
In case you downloaded the recently released Microsoft Office for iPad, you may have realised that the free version only allows you to read documents or make presentation. If you want to make edits or perform other advanced tasks you will require a costly Office 365 subscription.
Alongside the release of Microsoft Office for iPad, Microsoft has also updated Microsoft Office Mobile for iOS to version 1.1 making it free to use. Previously users required an Office 365 subscription in order to use the app, but now you can use it for free, as long as you are a home user. Business users will still require an Office 365 subscription to create and manage documents.
Microsoft Office Mobile for Android has been updated to version 15.0.2720.2000 and is now free to use. Previously users required an Office 365 subscription in order to use the app, but now you can use it for free, as long as you are a home user. Microsoft has released Office Lens for Windows Phone 8 devices. The application acts like a mobile scanner that allows users to take pictures of things like business cards, restaurant menus, notes on whiteboards or blackboards and turn them into OneNote notes for later editing.
Microsoft has made OneNote free on the Mac and Windows platform, which means the note taking service is now free across all platforms. Additionally the company released a cloud-based API facilitating the integration of both first and third-party apps with with OneNote. This move is just another step for Microsoft to revitalize its cloud presence in the modern post PC era.
Microsoft Office 365 is available for general users for $99 per year. For what you pay you get the entire suite of Microsoft Office on up to 5 Windows or Apple computers, plus up to 5 mobile devices.
Microsoft Office for iOS was released early last month with support for just the iPhone and it is finally making its way to Android devices. Just like with the iOS version the Microsoft Office for Android is only compatible with Android phones and not tablets. Another similarity is that while the app is available as a free download users will require an Office 365 subscription in order to use it.
