The preview version of Skype for Windows Phone 8 has been recently updated to version 2.1. Unfortunately this update temporarily disables the Skype integration with the People Hub due to concerns about device stability. The People Hub on Windows Phone 8 is central hub which allows users to make calls, text, email or IM their contacts. The Hub also allows users to view the latest notifications and updates from your contacts’ Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn profiles. The Skype team has stated that they are working with the Windows Phone team to restore the People Hub integration.
Meanwhile the 2.1 Preview update does bring new changes and improvements to the app. Keeping in mind that you will loose Skype integration with the People Hub you can download the update directly on your device through the Windows Phone Store or by using the following link.
Raul Liive, the beta program manager of the Microsoft Skype division had the following to say regarding the update
"We are working with the Windows Phone team to resolve the issue and to enable the integration again in a future release."Skype 2.1 Preview for Windows Phone 8 has the following new features and improvements
- Adds an updated chat keyboard with improved autocomplete/autocorrect
- Allows users to find and add their ‘buddies’ who use Windows Live Messenger Messenger from your contacts.
- Brings the ability to receive ‘toast’ notifications from Windows Live Messenger contacts
- The reliability of presence, chat, call notifications and call reliability have been significantly improved
- Chats will now appear in order based on a time stamp
- Links to some website have been repaired.
