While the device will remain on Android 4.1.1, you will also get new bootloaders after installing this update. While Samsung or Verizon have not revealed the reason behind the new bootloaders, they could patch the exploit which was previously used to unlock bootloaders on the older software. This means that users who rely on custom ROMs may have to wait before installing this update as you may get locked out of doing so following this update.
However if you haven't rooted your device, you can head over to Settings and check if the update is available for your Galaxy Note II. You can also manually check for the update by heading over to Settings on your device.
