Once As the Windows 8 launch drew closer, we learned that Microsoft would enable the Adobe Flash for only Microsoft selected websites on the Metro (Modern UI) version of Internet Explorer 10. While this wouldn’t be a problem for regular Windows 8 users, this could be quite crippling for Windows RT users on the Microsoft Surface. It now turns out that developers have come up with a simple yet effective hack by bypassing this restriction.
Microsoft restricts the websites which can access flash through a predefined whitelist. This list is continuously updated by Microsoft by syncing your browser with their servers, ensuring you always have access to the latest list of sites.
The hack takes control of the list and allows you to add website of your choice to it. This means you can have flash access to any website of your choice.
To get started you need to stop Microsoft from syncing the white list with their servers. To do this:
- Open the desktop version of Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 8
- Go to Tools > Compatibility View Settings.
- Deselect Download updated compatibility list from Microsoft.
Next you need to add new websites to the Flash white list
- Open the run command by pressing the ‘Windows Key + R’ and type in the following
notepad "%HOMEPATH%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IECompatData\iecompatdata.xml"
- - This will open ‘iecompatdata.xml’ in Notepad
-

- - Locate the meta tags <Flash> </Flash> and add the domain of your choice between those tags
eg: <Flash> <domain>djsmobiles.com</domain> </Flash>
-

- - Once you have added the websites of your choice, save the file and delete IE’s browsing history.
- - Launch the Modern IE10, go to Settings > Internet Options > Delete browsing history.
-

- - Make sure you restart your browser once completed.
